LICENSING FOR SEAMLESS PATTERNS AND ILLUSTRATIONS

Art licensing: key information

Do you have questions about licensing and how it works? You've come to the right place.

The section below answers the most frequently asked questions about licenses.

  • An art license is a contract that allows a company or individual to rent a design or work of art under certain conditions defined by the license. This can include textile designs, product illustrations, or other forms of creative visuals. Depending on your needs, I can grant exclusive or non-exclusive licenses.

  • A non-exclusive license allows several companies or individuals to use the same design simultaneously. By choosing this type of license, you have access to one of my pre-existing designs, which you can have printed by the supplier of your choice and use in a single product category. This design also remains available for sale to other companies and on platforms such as Spoonflower, where it can be printed on various media such as fabric, wallpaper and other products. Costs for this type of license are lower than for exclusive licenses.

  • An exclusive license guarantees you the unique use of a design in a particular product category. Once granted, this license gives you exclusive rights to use the pattern in the agreed category, and the design will no longer be offered to other companies in that product category for the duration of the license. The design can be chosen from my portfolio or my Spoonflower shop, or it may be custom-made following the signing of an exclusive license.

As a designer, I retain the right to use the pattern during the rental period for any purpose not specified in the licensing contract (other categories). At the end of the licensing period, you will have a priority option to renew the agreement. If you choose not to renew the license, the rights to the design will automatically revert to me.

  • Rates are tailor-made and depend on many factors specific to each project. These factors are listed in my licensing enquiry form.

  • I have a standard licensing contract we can use, but you’re also welcome to propose your own if you prefer.

  • As the designer, I retain copyright and ownership of the pattern/illustration and any derivative works at all times. For the time being, I do not offer the possibility of purchasing all rights to a design (buy-outs).

  • All my patterns are designed to repeat endlessly. Each side of the pattern is designed to align perfectly with its adjacent edges, allowing continuous printing without visible interruption.

  • I can supply patterns in CMYK or RGB, depending on your printer's requirements. Pantone colors can also be provided upon request.

  • Seamless patterns files are typically provided in .png format, with a dimension of 1728 x 1728 px (24 x 24 in.) and a resolution of 300 dpi. However, these specifications can be customized to meet your requirements.

  • If your printer or manufacturer needs files with several layers, I can supply them. Just let me know.

  • You can view my portfolio in the Portfolio section of this site. To explore more color combinations, visit my Spoonflower shop, where you'll find all my seamless patterns organized in collections. My portfolio and shops will give you an overview of the patterns and illustrations I can also create exclusively for your project.

  • I can customize colors or make minor changes to existing designs. If you would like a change, don't hesitate to contact me.

  • Contact me if you have a specific project for which you'd like to have an exclusive illustration, collection or seamless pattern. It will be my pleasure to discuss with you!
